Deidox - God Documentaries

Deidox, produced by the Chronicle Project, are short films about real people and how God is working in their lives. Brent Gudgel and Dave Mahanes bring these untold stories to life in these films which are available for individual and large group use.

Lindsay is a young teacher who works in Middle School 223 in the Bronx, where 50% of the kids live below the poverty line. Watch the video below for a preview.

Lecrae's "Go Hard" in Sign Language

As part of her class, this young woman recited (is that the right term?) "Go Hard" by Lecrae in American Sign Language. This seriously impressed me because the verses are certainly not simple and she even seems to get her groove on a little bit. That's the way to do a class project! Great song and great job!

NewReleaseTuesday's iPhone App Released

A couple weeks ago, NewReleaseTuesday.com released an iPhone app full of information on Christian music artists. The App Podcast reviewed it and talked about the many features. I've downloaded it too and the sheer volume of data available is impressive.

You can easily check out upcoming album releases and a ton of info on various artists, albums and songs. You can also find lyrics to your favorite song. Researching an artist or finding that album you just can't remember is made super easy.

Make your "Motions Resolution"

Over at MatthewWest.com you can make your New Years resolution known considering the theme of his song "The Motions". Are you willing to say "No more going through the Motions!"? If you are visit The Motions mini-site and let your voice be heard. West says

I know what a "Christian" should say. I know how to act. I know how to put up a spiritual front, even if I'm not passionately seeking God. That was the inspiration behind my song, "The Motions". I was tired of settling for a stale faith. God is a God of PASSION. His true plan for our lives is anything but boring. Every day, The God of adventure beckons his sons and daughters to quit going through the motions, and walk into a life filled with passion and wonder.

Online Mission Trip launches in February

The Online Mission Trip is an opportunity for youth to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the Internet and online social communities by sharing their faith with their friends on Facebook and other sites. The trip begins February 1st and goes for two weeks.

So how will these young people do this?

First, training is going on right now. A 3-week series of Bible studies have been prepared specifically for this event. they cover questions and issues like: what the Bible says about sharing our faith, how to share our faith, and how to use social media to share our faith. The site also has links to how to share your faith with different kinds of people.

Then through the course of the trip, students will use photos, blog posts, videos and other posted items to social communities. Discussions will ensue and the students will share the good news with their friends. After the trip, they will follow up with anyone who decided to receive Christ.

If you are at all interested in participating, check out the website and get ready for Feb 1!

Determining the ministry role you belong in (comedy)

Over at Stuff Christians Like, a recent post written by frequent commenter "Nick the Geek" discusses the things you need to look at in your own life before you decide what kind of ministry role you may be called to. Certain characteristics may lead toward being a senior pastor, a youth minister, or a missionary. A few of the best:

Senior Pastor
1. Do you know where the secret bathroom is?
4. Do you consider the church pot luck fine dining?

Children’s Pastor
3. Have you ever used the phrase “magic for Jesus” in a non-ironic manner?

Missionary
1. Is your motto “I’ll eat anything once?”
3. Do you think James Bond would have made an awesome missionary?

Check the Stuff Christians Like blog for more comedic looks at Christian life. NOTE: I take people's calling to minister very seriously and I bet Nick does too. However, cracking a few jokes, especially at things like the above can be just good fun.

Hardcore Christian Gamer hosts Xbox Community Playdate

On Sunday, December 28th our friends at Xbox 360 Community Playdate in Call of Duty: World at War. World at War is the 5th game in the CoD franchise and just came out a couple months ago.

Community Playdates are Microsoft-promoted specific days for a community of gamers to get together in a particular game and play with the rest of the Xbox community. In this case, several HCG members will send out game invites to those interested in playing. The playdate has been promoted on xbox.com and on the Xbox dashboard.

On the most recent episode of the Hardcore Christian Gamer podcast Drew said 294 people have expressed interest and several of the playdate hosts had to create free silver Xbox Live accounts - which are the easiest way to expand your friends list or have a "clan list". The membership of the website has almost doubled since the playdate was announced and some Christian ministry has even happened with people who found out about the site because of the playdate.

If you are interested in playing, read about it on xbox.com. Otherwise, please pray for all the people who might have a chance to be witnessed to through this Sunday night.

Tracking Christian mission progress

More than 6,000 people groups - representing about 2 billion people - are considered "unreached" by the Joshua Project. The Joshua Project seeks to "highlight the ethnic people groups of the world with the least followers of Christ. The mission of Joshua Project is to help bring definition to the unfinished task of the Great Commission by identifying and highlighting the people groups of the world that have the least exposure to the Gospel and the least Christian presence in their midst." Those unreached people groups represent a huge amount of work yet to be done for missionaries and Bible translators.

On their website, the Joshua Project presents profiles of each unreached people group so that we can become more aware of who we are praying for and working toward reaching. One people group is the Tajik people which are in Tajikstan and northern Afghanistan. They have a separate profile for the Afghani Tajiks and it is quite interesting. You can learn that they speak Dari Persian, are descended from the Persians, were "forcefully converted to Islam by Arabs in the 7th century", and most Tajiks are Sunni Muslims.

Along with these profiles they display the Joshua Project Progress Scale rating for the people group. It is a fusion of several other indicators: % Evangelical, % Adherent, Johnstone Church Planting Indicator (CPI), IMB-SBC World Evangelization Status Indicator, Morelia Scale, World A-B-C classification and others. The Afghani Tajiks have a scale rating of 1.2 which means evangelicals are greater than 0.01% of the people group's population but less than 2% and adherents to Christianity are less than 5%.

The Joshua Project also has Mission Facts which are short explanations of the work yet to be done to reach the world with the good news of Jesus. Examples:

  • 48 of the 77 people groups in Afghanistan do not have even Bible portions available in their primary language.
  • About 4,400 languages are without Scripture portions available, with some 634,000,000 speakers. Translation projects are in progress in an estimated 1,600 languages that currently are without adequate Scriptures. There are about 2,500 languages needing Bible translation work to begin.
  • There are 1,007 languages with the Jesus film available, 323 with Gospel radio available, and 4,170 with Gospel recordings available (plus approximately 2000 language recordings that have not had Ethnologue codes assigned yet). 2,209 languages have none of these resources available, with about 195,000,000 speakers.
World Progress Map

Be sure to check out the Joshua Project website for a lot more on the progress of mission work around the world. Note that over in the right side bar of the Christians and the Media front page is a short profile from Joshua Project of an unreached people group.
